Flagstaff, AZ

Posted by on April 3, 2010

I bid farewell to my fellow deckmates today. Robin snapped a photo of Phil, myself, Ed, and Paul. The bookends both are California boys. Ed is another Pennsylvanian that has moved permanently to Arizona. However, after spending the last six weeks with me, he’s decided to purchase another motorhome and get back on the road. We finished the inventory much earlier today than expected. I planned to leave Phoenix on Saturday morning. We had everything packed and ready to roll by 2 p.m. But as the sun beat down on us while we preparing for the road, we sweat in the mid 80 degree temperature. One last dip prior to leaving so off to the pool we sauntered for just a few minutes.

On the road by mid afternoon. Climbing the altitude as we headed to Flagstaff was like another world. Here we were jumping in the pool to cool off and a mere three hours later there’s snow on the ground,  I have to turn the dashboard heater on and in the distance I see the mountains all snow-capped. No campgrounds within a two hour drive. As we land on top of a mesa I spot and old abandoned motel with a large empty lot. I pull in for the night, turn on the generator, and fire up the furnace. Both ends of the spectrum within a half of a day.
