Best Dip You've Ever Tasted

Posted by on August 28, 2008

I like to think that I am good at many things but a master at none.  But that may be my own ego getting in the way of some heady thinking.  Perhaps I’m not as good as I think at those many things.  Nevertheless, one thing I do know is cooking, good food, and how to prepare good food.  I’m not a gourmet, nor am I an artist with the cuisine I create.  All it has to be is savory to the point that it piques the interest of the taste buds.  My quest is to hear, “damn Larry, this is really good.”  I also believe and have done so for years, that when you see or hear of a good idea, you steal it.  So let me share what I have stolen from a friend.  This has to be the best damn dip that I have ever introduced to my tastebuds, and I want to share the recipe with you.

  1. 1/4 lb. each of provolone and American cheese       italian-dip.jpg
  2. 1/4 lb. each of cooked ham, hot ham, and sandwich pepperoni
  3. 3 medium tomatoes……chopped
  4. 1 medium onion, finely diced
  5. 1/2 head of shredded lettuce or an 8 oz. bag

Cut the meat and cheese into 3/8 or 1/2 inch squares. (Now this is a bit tedious so you get your wife to do this part.) A pizza cutter is best for this task.  Mix all the ingredients while adding 1/2 cup each of mayonnaise and miracle whip.  Add a teaspoon full of fresh ground oregano (or less if you’re a sissy).  Serve with sliced French bread.  But don’t get the baguette bread as it’s too hard.  Get the French country bread as its usually much softer and gentler to the palate. After you’ve tried this, email me or comment and let me know if this isn’t the best damn thing you’ve ever eaten. Quick to make and you’ll be the hit at your next covered dish or party.  You’ll find yourself liking it so much that instead of a dip, you’ll use two pieces of bread and eat it like a sandwich…..you heathens.

I also have that recipe (from the same source) and can’t wait to be invited somewhere so I can Make it and take it. Of course I could always make it and eat it right here at home.

If you do, call me, I’ll be right over.

I wonder how that would go with pulled-pork instead of ham? Sounds like it would be worth a try. May as well grill the veggies while the charcoal is burning.

Now I am hungry. This sounds really good!

I don’t know about the pulled pork. The dip actually tastes just like an Italian Hoagie. But give it a try, what do you have to lose.
